Hi guys, I just did a clean install of windows xp pro on my dell e1505. It worked fine, but after I repaired mediadirect, i can no longer go into windows. A blue screen pops up, and it just restarts the comp. I tried loading the windows xp cd to reinstall windows, but after it loads the files and drivers at windows setup, I get yet another blue screen. It says that the computer may have a faulty driver or something. So now I am stuck and can't boot the windows xp cd or go into windows. Does anyone have a solution???

when you formatted, did you delete all of your partitions?

i deleted everything but the diagnostic and the media direct partition. the blue screen error i get when trying to install windows is 0X000000CA. I googled this and it doesnt make sense to me, cause in windows I didnt use any plug and play devices on the system, other than a flash drive which had all the dell drivers on it...

In all honesty, I don't see very many choices that you have. The easiest and best thing to do would be to call Dell and request a new HDD since XP has gone haywire on you and you can't do anything about it really. I've never seen it where you can get into XP format unless the disc was damage or the HDD had failed in some way.

I don't know if it is necessarily a problem with the HDD. The problem is that without access to XP or using the XP disc to get in, you are pretty limited on what you can do. You could try to find a boot disc and get around it, but IMO that might be more trouble than what it is worth.

I just recommended contacting dell because I think it would be the easiest solution since you didn't have anything on the HDD to begin with, and with a blue screen error on XP format, that's going to be pretty difficult to get around.

Maybe we'll get lucky and someone will have a better solution.

Ok i called dell and they said they would replace the hard drive AND the motherboard....dunno why but as long as it comes back working, thats fine with me. The problem is that I have to send the laptop to them, I just hope it doesnt take too long cuz I need it soon for college. They said I could just keep the hard drive I already have. I want to try and reformat that and use as an external, but Im not sure how to even do that because I cant load a windows disc to format.

If you really want to format again, I can walk you through the whole process. I can't gurantee that we won't have any errors, but so far, I've only had 1 laptop have a major problem with MD.

Southerngirl, thx for the offer to help. I have used your reformat quide before and it has worked fine for me, no problems with mediadirect or anything. This problem came up on this specific instance, which is what confuses me. At this point i think I am simply content with uninstalling all junk programs and using a reg cleaner. I might attempt to reformat sometime in the future. Thx guys for all your help!

I totally agree with you. The MD issues seem to be a hit or miss type of thing. Some users have no problems when they format, yet even if you follow the guide exactly, you might still get problems. I'm trying to figure out all of the kinks but in all honesty, I have no idea what is going on with MD.

    Good Luck.

The easiet thing to do with Media Direct is just delete the partition and get the reinstall disk from Dell.
