It shouldn't be. You can request a new keyboard from Dell's tech support. It is easy to install, and they'll send it to you within 2 business days.

It's really not too difficult...You just remove the hinge cover, a few screws, and the connector underneath the keyboard. You won't hurt anything. Just make sure that when you pry the hinge cover off, use something that won't scratch the trim (I use a small rubber screwdriver). IMO, it's not worth the hassle of sending your comp back to Dell just for the replacement of the keyboard

The E1505 keyboard's aren't the greatest (or I haven't had the best luck), I have already been through 2 and I got mine in April. One just stopped working and the other had a couple keys that just simply broke off.

    Good luck.

I'm not so sure its defective. Maybe it's just breaking in. When I got my new Dell, and later when I replaced the keyboard. Both times the keys started squeaking particularly from the top right row down to the shift key on the right side. The squeaking eventually went away. I thought the keyboard was 'breaking in'.
