Can you explain a little more?

Do you have 2 different HD's?

Or is it an 80GB with a 20GB partition?

If you only have one HD, you need to create a 20 - 30GB partition in XP.

Then start the Vista setup (Boot from the DVD) and choose to install it in the newly created 20 - 30GB partition.

    Drivers?

Do you get the Prompt in the beginning asking you which operating system you want to use?

    Vista

    or

    Earlier Operating Systems

Choose Vista. Go to Dell.com / support / downloads / Choose e1705 and Vista 32-Bit?

    Download your drivers.

Or download them from another computer and put them on a new Disc or USB flash drive.

Don't use the OLD Dell disk.

AGAIN, go to Dell.com and download the drivers you need for vista (latest anyway)

    Put them on a CD.

Start Windows Vista, and run drivers from CD.

The driver installation should start automatically even if they are extracted to the XP HD or partition.

Or you could extract all drivers (use winrar) and burn them to a CD.

Start Vista, go to device manager, and point each device to look for a driver in your CD-Rom!

I understand dual boot Linux. But WHy XP Vista? seems as though you should go for one or the other.
