There are some problems with them:

    - Noisy headphonejack...mine is ok, but some people complained
    - CPU noise...some noise from Core2 CPUs is normal!
    - grainy screen...WSXGA and WXGA+ have this...but I think most of them are ok, as mine is too, but some could be bad

Other than that I think its a very nice notebook for the price.

I think most 1520's are as close to perfect as can be, but there is always going to be the occasional problem. No laptop is perfect; there's always going to be something you find that you don't like. But the small problems listed above really don't seem much to decide not to buy the 1520; it looks like a great model. I almost opted for that model instead of my 1420!
So go ahead and buy it, try it out, and if you don't like it or it really bugs yo, just return it.

Its not up to the sales rep.. call dell customer support. They will replace system if you are still within the first 21 days... maybe longer for the vostro not sure. If its for a bad display, there may be no way to guarantee the replacement will be any better. If you decide to return for refund, Dell generally will take the full 30 days to credit your CC. But in my experience, Dells CSR's are very professional and you should have no problems getting a replacement if something goes wrong. I only wish Dells hardware was as good as their support.
I had no problems getting a replacement and no problems getting a refund (took 30 days) when the replacement was also bad.

People who receive them and like them, generally do not post it. When someone receives a defective one, they post all over the board about it. I would say the majority are very pleased with their purchase. :)

they sell millions of machines, people that don't have problems, never bother coming online to *****. The very small amount that come on here and complain are the unlucky ones that get machines with defects or complete lemons.

I don't care what anyone says, when you make so many products at such a high rate, there will be the odd lemon. Completely normal.. Also Dell, will bend over backwards to help you, and you can't say that about many or any other computer company around.

The screen issue is beyond a quick fix or Dell fault, blame screen manufactures for rushing shotty products to the vendor to meet deadlines. I've had 2 screens (I cracked/smashed the first one..lol..don't ask) and they were both perfect so..

The CPU whine has been a problem for years with computers..I got a old IBM notebook that screams like a lobster in boiling water.. You should be able to fix it if you have it, just by running RMClock, but Dell 'apparently' has a bios fix for it, coming soon, so I heard..

The headphone jack making noise issue - I got desktops that do it.. Strangely, RMclock solved it too.

This is my first Dell, and I plan to invest my money in more of their systems in the future because. I've been so please. And I'm as picky as hell, and came from building custom desktops - they had to be doing something right to convert me..lol
