got a new i6000d (specs at bottom). just did a test for the 9 cel battery. here's the lowdown...

    5:30pm BEGIN TEST
    -brightness on lowest setting
    -wifi off
    -played Lost in Translation DVD

    7:15pm DVD COMPLETED
    -3:07 hours remaining / 55% battery remaining
    -turned wifi on
    -launched trillian, outlook, and firefox
    -surfed around, chatted, email'd
    -some ftp tranfers

    9:17pm LOW BATTERY WARNING
    -30 mins remaining / 10% battery remaining

TOTAL ELAPSED TIME: 5:30pm to 9:47pm (estimated via warning) = 4 hours 17 mins

    *****

i assume i would get more time if i hadn't played a DVD since the DVD drive drains more battery life than simple surfing

also, i had the brightness turned all the way down which wasn't too hard to see, but i think a comfortable viewing brightness would have been a couple clicks up

    i6000d
    60 GB 7.2 RPM
    512 (2x256) 400 mHz
    15.4" WUXGA
    9 cel battery

I started at 9 PM and it is 12 now and I have about 1 hour of battery left.

I kept the screen on almost the brightest setting, had wifi on the whole time, and was doing mostly internet/mp3s/chatting.

I just got the laptop today though so this is the charge that they gave it at the factory. I am yet to charge it on my own. I imagine it will add a few minutes to the battery once its broken in.

Looks like the 9-cell battery is good for about 4 and 1/2 hours or so of time. Very impressive.

How do you like the 6000. Mine is still being shipped. What is your opinion of the WUGXA screen?

I ordered it with the WSXGA 1680x1050 resolution.

I love this resolution. It lets me keep my Trillian docked, as well as having the office side bar and be editing a document without having to alt-tab or lose zoom or anything.

Also I can open some of the huge photoshop files I do for print without having to zoom out of them.

I think this resolution is just right for a notebook, I wouldn't go to UXGA cause I don't want to squint as my eyesight isnt the best, but this is definitley better than XGA which would be huge and useless for anything beyond web browsing and chatting.

Oh yeah and I don't know what people were talking about the screen being dim or anything. Maybe it is just the XGA screen, because this screen is just right. I even find that to get the most comfortable viewing I turn the brightness down a little!

What is your opinion of the WUGXA screen?

truthfully, it's perfect. i don't understand why people get a huge 15.4" or bigger screen and with an (W)XGA res. all the icons and windows must be HUGE ("My First Sony" style or something).

i personally hate having to scroll down when looking at websites or docs. my "test" for screen res when i bought the i6000 was the ability to have a full size source document and a full size work document next to each other without having to ALT+TAB between the two.
