    hi. i bought a dell inspiron 6000 around 5 months ago after i got help from you guys. around a month ago, after i press the power button, it took around 7-10 minutes shut down. then i remembered you guys and thought you can help.
    the shutting down process of my comp goes like this: i press the power button, an "End Now" box pops up for a fraction of a second, my desktop is showing(not the logging off and saving your personal settings screen), then after like 4 minutes, the logging off, saving your personal settings, and shutting down screen shows up for around 4 minutes, then shuts down. pleaseeeeeeeee help me. thx in advance

    try downloading the program tuneXP. just google it, you will find it. In the program there is an option that says faster shutdown apply. that may help. just check out this link for more info on optimizing start up and shutdown... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=5787
    hoope that helps!

    i had the exact same problem. You can change XP so that it shuts down without waiting to end tasks by editing a registry key.

    Go to start-->run-->regedit

    If you want this to happen for ALL users:
    HKEY_USERS-->.Default-->Control Panel-->Desktop-->doubleclick on "AutoEndTasks" and enter 1 as the value data.

    If you just want a quicker shut down for you:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USERS-->Control Panel-->Desktop-->doubleclick on "AutoEndTasks" and enter 1 as the value data.

    Personally, if nobody else is using your computer or doesn't care, go with the option to do it for all users. I edited the key as described in the second option, but found that sometimes it wouldn't shut down quickly. When I used the first option, everytime i have shut down in less than 20 seconds.
