    Hi there all,

I purchased a dell 1420, and every now and again, maybe once every 2 days, there is this high pitched "beeeep". I thought maybe it had something to do with heat, or perhaps the system clock changing, but i'm not sure.

    Anyone else experienced this noise?

I know what you're talking about. I had a e1705 that used to do the same thing. It gradually went away. It did it for about 2 years... but less often as time went by...

I have the same problem. I also have a Inspiron 1420 and every few days a loud Beep will come from inside somewhere even when speakers are muted

Not that it helps, but my iPod does that. It's actually a really weird noise and not much of a beep so much as similar sounds to an old 56k modem connecting to the internet, but it took me forever to figure out that it was my iPod making the noise.

haha. that is odd. hmm. if it seems others are having the same problem, and it might be across other models. might give dell tech support and see what they say. didnt think that an ipod would do it? it doesnt even have a speaker does it?!

hmm my laptop is still doing the beeping sounds about once every other week id say? I think my ipod actually has done that too. But it wouldn't necessarily need speakers since my laptop makes the beeping sounds when the speakers are muted.

I used to have that beep every few days on my Vostro 1400, but it has been gone for a couple months now after I installed another HD with WinXP Pro and added a 355 BT module. I can swap back the original HD with Vista to see if this is related to Vista or drivers for Vista. The funny thing is that I swapped the HD with different OS once or twice a week in the beginning. But I have been working solely on XP Pro happily in the last month and a half. There is really nothing I miss from the Vista Ultimate.
