    as you may be aware by my asking this,i do not know anything about computers.i bought my wife the above laptop in 2008.we have just returned from holiday and we cannot switch the laptop on.my wife normally has the charger plugged in when she uses it.there is absolutely no life in it at all.do you think it is the battery.thank you for your help. :confused: :confused:

    If you cannot start it at all, you've most likely got a bad motherboard. A dead battery will not prevent the system from running normally.

    I would try;

    - A known good Dell 90 watt AC adapter

    - A known good battery

    - Removing the battery and AC adapter, holding down the power button for 30 seconds, 2-3 times

    If following these steps and it still doesn't power on and you did not drop your laptop/spill liquid on it/perform a Frankenstein operation on it, likely you have a defective motherboard in which unless you are under Dell warranty you will need a new one.
