Hi,
Recently I have been experiencing problems with my Dell Inspirion 1545. I have had the laptop for about a year now and it has been problem free up untill this past week.
The problem is when I start up the laptop it comes up with the dell logo like always and loads up. However, after the dell logo disappears I am confronted with a black screen with the title "Windows error recovery" Looking at the screen I read :
" Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.
If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly Start Up repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally.
(Use the arrows keys to highlight your choice)
Launch start up repair(recommended)
Start windows normally"
If you highlight one of the options you have about 30 seconds to make a decision. I highlighted over both of them and they read:
Launch start up repair:
"Description: Fix problems that are preventing windows from starting"
Start windows normally
"Description: Start windows with its regular settings"
Firstly, I tried the launch start up repair option as it was recommended, apparently. Then the laptop did its usual load up procedure. Suddenly, a blue screen appaers with all this confusing instructions on.
It reads:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or teminated.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or sotware is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you neeed to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Start Up options, and then select safe mode.
Technical information:
***STOP: 0x000000 F4 (0x00000003, 0x84B86380, 0x84B864CC,0x8125C330)"
I also chose the other option which was the "Start windows normally" option. However, it did the usual procedure of loading up but after 2-3 minutes it went straight back to square one, the black screen with the title "Windows error recovery"
This is really confusing and my warranty has expired so I cant replace the laptop with another one.
Could you provide me with assitance please to help resolve this issue as soon as possible please?
Finally, another question of mine is the charger I got with my Dell Inspirion 1545 laptop broke or the fuse went or something as the green light doesn't show up. I bought another charger which isnt a Dell one but when you unplug the laptop from the charger it turns off instantly?
Would you recommended me buying a new charger?
Is the charger the issue of my main problem or for problems in the future?
Many thanks,

You should probably re-install Windows.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Your problems with the adapter are most likely a separate issue. If the laptop powers off when you take it off AC, it means that the battery is not charging or that it is completely dead.
If your third party AC adapter is of shoddy quality, it may not be recognized by the laptop and the laptop will not charge the battery. Also, when your old adapter fried, it may have also damaged the motherboard, causing the laptop to not recognize any adapter and subsequently not charge the battery.
You can take a look at the battery page in BIOS to see if you're getting that infamous "AC adapter not recognized" message. -
The first step is to see if you can back up your data. Try to get a Live CD of a lightweight Linux distro to see if you can access and backup all of your critical personal data. You can also do HDD diagnostics.
My gut tells me that you should reload your operating system and drivers with the Dell discs. You also might have to buy yet another power source. Keep in mind that there are perfectly good generic, non-branded, replacement power sources out there. Some of the cheapo Hong Kong replacements are good. Some are crap.
I have no idea why your original power adapter failed. I can only hope that you've been using some sort of surge protector. -
