to bring the comp out of standby just press the power button :D also if you dont want this to happen every time you close the lid go into power properties > advanced> and change the "when you close lid.." option

Maybe I should be glad that my order was cancelled without my knowledge, that I was lied to, had the phone put down on me, put through to an answer phone ........

did you try moving around on the trackpad at all after pressing the power button? the screen might be turned off.

If you didn't have anything that you needed to save, then try holding the power button for 5 seconds.

Is the left led light on (series of 3 lights on the right hinge)?

i seem to remember this problem cropping up a few months ago.

    a couple things to check...

    1. are you chipset (and other drivers) up to date? this may not be the problem since your notebook is relatively new

    2. do you have hibernate, standy, and screensaver functions turned on? i believe there's a conflict if you do this. either only have hibernate or standby configured. try it without screensaver as well.

If all else fails, just take out the battery and put it back into to start back up.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000m running factory Win XP Media Center Ed.

When the monitor turns off (usu. running on batteries when lid is closed) and wont respond to mouse, touchpad or keyboard I press [Fn]+[F8] (CRT/LCD: the toggle function between LCD screen, and external monitor) a few times. Sometimes this turns the monitor back on.
