    I have an celeron-m 1.6 420 on ebay for sale.

    I got an message asking would it work in a dell inspiron 6400.

    does anybody know.

    You'd need to ask the person who's asking what type of processor they currently have, and if they know the BIOS version (not needed, but it helps figure out if the computer will take it).

    I have asked them what processor they have installed.

    it`s funny i have searched google and all the inspiron 6400 i can find have dual core processors installed already.

    why would they want my celeron-m 1.6 420.

    are their some old 6400???

    I just got an reply from the guy, he said he bought the laptop without a processor so he dose not know.

    Yep should work, the two processors (Core Duo and Celeron M) use the same Yonah Core.

    Same socket and voltage etc...

    Yep, as the others have said, if the motherboard of the notebook accepts the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo, then it will almost certiainly be able to accept the Celeron 400 series processors. Basically, the person who is asking the question needs to make sure that he has Socket 479, but only the newer one which is compatible with Core Duo/Core 2 Duo.
