you can try here to have dell send you the discs as per the link I provide in this thread

or you can figure out what drivers you need and download them individually here

or you can try here as well https://smartsource.dell.com/web/UserForms/RegisterSystem.aspx

I could not tell you specifically where to go since you still have not said with you are referring to the operating system, system drivers, or factory installed programs. But at least one of those three links should get you to where you need to go.

I'm going to assume you are talking about the OS. The only place I could think of is eBay, or contacting Dell directly to see if they can send you a disc.

Otherwise, if you know anyone who has a (XP?) disc, you could borrow it off them.

hi i have a dell inspiron 6400. The screen went black. I could faintly see icons. I hooked it up to another monitor. It was fine. Replaced inverter and bulb. No good. The bulb will not light up. Basically there is no power to the bulb. I did a dell diagnostic and it said the bulb and inverter were both working ok. I tested the bulb on another laptop and it was working. I dont know what to do next, can anyone help? thanks !

What GPU does it have? If it's an Nvidia, then that is pretty much self explanatory, the thing has probably fried itself. Could also be a bad screen.

If dave harris sees icons faintly on the screen & it works perfectly on an external monitor then it definitely is not "self explanatory" just because it has, or does not have, an nVidia graphics chip. If it had one of the bad batches of nVidia chips it would not work properly on an external monitor.

Dave harris has a mechanical &/or power issue that can not be resolved with software from the discs. Especially after no luck with replacing the inverter and bulb, we can speculate on various other possibilities, but calling Dell tech support to troubleshoot over the phone is his most efficient option.
