Any luck solving this problem yet? I can't offer any extremely helpful advice, but your best bet is probably to contact Dell.

What happened after it attempted to perform startup repairs?

Instead of trying to make the disk repair, have you tried to have it do a fresh install. I had corrupted a sector before and it looked a lot like this. The only solution was to completely wipe out the old installation and do a new one. The installation disk could not repair the problem and would just run forever without correcting the problem. Luckily, I had a good back up. Set the bios to boot from CD and put in the repair/system disk. You should get a window that gives you the option to repair the existing copy of windows or install a new copy of windows. Select the new copy. It will overwrite everyting on the drive.

If you can make it boot by using a boot disk, you might be able to restore to a previous version and not have to do a fresh install. If none of that works, it might be a more serious problem. What versions of windows do you have on the lappy and on your desktop. If you have W7 on both, do you have pro on any 1.

I would say that you need to run diagnostics on the hard drive first. Make sure the drive is usable. If so, then Bronsky is probably correct. You will need to do a clean install.
