    hi everyone,

my dell latitude 3550 will not book unless i clear the cmos. does anyone know why this happens?

if i leave the power cable on the notebook it works fine and boots after I turn it off.

If i don't leave the power cable in , many times it will not boot unless i clear the cmos
I have a brand new cmos battery in too. most current bios update already on it too

    any ideas?

From your description still sounds like CMOS is not powered from battery. I would check that polarity is correct, clean the contacts and make sure they connect properly, check the battery has proper voltage (it wouldn't be first time ever than new battery was DOA).

cmos battery is 3.31 volts, super clean new battery, contacts looks new on board

notebook battery has 12v , more than it should i guess, shows good power in windows OS, shows low wear, bios says battery is good

im not sure what it is.

sometimes i have to clear mem and cmos

"sometimes" could mean intermittent problem, something like crack solder, rather hard to troubleshoot, since it may not show up during test. The only other thing I can think off is something corrupting cmos or cmos failing. Sorry couldn't help much.
