    Hi,

Any x300 users who've taken the plunge for the x1?

As a longtime x300 user, I'm considering doing so.

Am specifically interested in differences that _can't_ be easily snagged from reading tech specs, etc.

What I don't need more info on:
For instance, I know that the x1 lacks a PCMCIA slot, etc, and if you need one, you'll have to find a hacky solution. Also, the built in speaker is even crappier than the x300's...

What I am interested in are ergonomics, keyboard differences (I know the keys themselves are all 18mm, but are arrangements/spacing/available keys significantly different), touchpad feel differences, and the like.

    thanks!

I would look at Fujitsu P7010. It has a PCMCIA slot. It has an optical drive that can be swapped for an extra battery. The x1 uses a 1.8" hard drive so you are stuck with a 4200RPM drive. The Fujitsu uses a standard notebook hard drive so it can be upgraded to a 5400 or 7200RPM drive. It is a little heavier than the Dell. There is a $100 rebate on the P7010 right now. I'll suggest PortableOne to customize it:

No tax and free shipping at PortableOne if you are not it California. If you want the best ultra light keyboard, the IBM x40/41 is it. It uses the 1.8" hard drive as well. Good Luck.

I was robbed by a sweet little old lady on a motorized cart and I didn't even see it coming.

the P7000 is a 10.6 inch wide screen. How can you compare it to a 12 inch wide screen? It's apples and oranges?

Regarding the missing PCMCIA some tell me a good use for it that they actually use.
