Check the order/invoice.
Does it say Sound Card Audigy or Sound Card Audigy Software?
On most configurations Dell is offering software from Creative to 'improve' the audio experience. This will be done of course using the CPU. You still have the initial sound card. It's nothing but some software running.
This is why I suggest checking the invoice.
I hate this concept... -
You can call dell and have the Audigy drivers shipped to you if it was not already pre-installed. The Audigy upgrade is not hardware, but just a bit of software installed on top of the normal integrated sound.
-
No, Dell didn't exactly lie, because on their online ordering, they did say it is Software Edition, so essentially, the only thing "extra" is that you are getting Creative drivers and not the stock SigmaTel drivers (the hardware unit is by SigmaTel).
I hate this too, cause the option for Audigy tends to trick the un-initiated into buying that for better sound when the underlying hardware is exactly the same. -
Actually, Sound Blaster isn't drivers. It is just software only. You are still required to use the Sigmatel drivers. If you ever format, you have to install the Sigmatel Drivers and then install the SoundBlaster software.
-
either way, I can confirm that with audigy software package everything sounds better on headphones.
-
There was a thread earlier this year that basically pointed out the error, be it deliberate or accidental on Dell's part. Since then Dell has consistently labeled the Audigy as a software and not a hardware addon
-
oohh ..ic2..wew i'm very dissapointed with it.
but i have no idea why dell put "integrated audigy sound card" in the dell shop.
it makes people think there is real audigy soundcard, isn't it ?
but why i can't install the audigy software?
it always errors "device can't be found" -
Cause you need to install your sigmatel drivers first. Then install the Audigy software. You might try installing everything in safe mode.
-
If we're talking about software, than that means I could download it and try it, to see if it's worth it or not, right?
Has anyone used it? Does it solve the "tinny sound" problem of the speakers? Does anyone know where to download it from the Net? -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
it makes a difference, I like the eq, for the tinny sound I highly reccomend downloading ac3 audio filter, just google it, install then max out the gains, it will signficantly boost overall volume and clarity
-
i was asking about the audigy software... anyone?
in anaycase, Iceman0124, can you post a screenshot of your settings, or post them here? any suggestions for ac3? -
*** Always Sigmatel Driver first and then SoundBlaster or Audigy software by the very first time after you reinstall your system; or it will cause problem on the later audio install.
-
if it's just software, could i just download the Creative Labs Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy ADVANCED HD Audio software and then install -- even though i only have the standard "integrated sound"?

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
you have to have the software for the driver to work, you can try out the software from creatives site, then opt to buy a key if you think its worth it, and I think its only 20 bucks on creatives site, all my outlet orders came with it, so I never had an option, I do however like it, it doesnt make a huge difference on my m1210, but on my 6400 it sounded great for a laptop with it, the sound could actually fill a small room with a reasonable amount of depth
-
would you be able to provide us with the link to the software please?
thanks! -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
you can search as well as I can, I read about it on these boards a month or 2 ago
-
Thanks! -
I looked for 2 seconds and I can't find it either... somebody do the work for me
-
I wasn't able to find it via Google or even the Creative website.
What's more, I find no way of cleanly uninstalling what Mikeoo17 linked to. It keeps on considering as if there were some time of "hardware" installed without the proper driver...
Ugh! :'( -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
on dells site they have an "invitation to " for the audigy software, thats probably the same thing, couldnt hurt to try it
