i called many times to verify the change in my screen model... and even recieved a call on fri of last week from a rep telling me it has shipped i went on to give them the order number and ask them to verify the part number used for the lcd.. they said xk309 which is what i requested and what i was told by escalations i would receive, needless to say they all gave me the wrong info and gave me a line of crap.. i got the same screen as last time and it looks exactly the same. i had my sisters 1520 here today sitting side by side with mine and she recieved the lfpl300 in her replacment which I LOVE IT LOOKS AWESOME!!!! AND THIS SEC LOOKS LIKE CRAP.. sorry for those that have it if you got a good one then you are soooo lucky.. ive seen 3 of my own and around 4 or 5 others in person they all looked nasty and dirty.. grainy, sparkly etc everything .... i am more pissed than anything because i was specifically promised something over and over and then told once it shipped while the csr was looking at the order that is was the screen i wanted to recieve, its NOT... dell should not tell people stuff or the csr should not have told me yes i see it here its correct... it not.. not on the invoice nor i=in the actual system. i wrote dell corporate and i am on the phone now for a full refund.. sorry dell maybe get your act together and stop making false promises to people than maybe youd earn some of that lost business back... we'll see what responses i get this time.. since just now when i called they gave me the like to like crap... which we all know by now is totally not true..

i was not aware that reps could see that level of detail in their orders in the first place?

Welll, since you are canceling/refunding now, I would not worry about what they will say. If they look at your case history, I am sure they won't say anything at all other then just refund your money. I think its the higher res screens that are then real problem. I ended up going with HP with the dv6500t and it only has the wxga screen anyways. Had I just ordered the damn wxga with the 1420 in the first place I probably would have keep it. But I am glad I went with Hp anyways, better design, lighter/less bulky way better built in speakers.

I suggest forget dell and start looking elsewhere. I think HP has their 20 percent coupon on again. I think HP probably is the closest competitor price wise and generally have brillant screens. HP is smart, they don't even offer the wxga + on their dv2500 or dv6500. They do offer it on their dv9500t but that generally is not a issue on a 17" display. I think the reason that Sony and HP do not even offer that res on many of there systems is that the wxga + has problems. I think you and I could have got a nice dell the first time around if we had just ordered the standard wxga TL or matte res.

^^^^ the one reason i did not order the hp was there is no 8600gt card .. i dont want the 8600gs.. wish it was different what pisses me off is that some poeple get a great system as now my sis and bil both have and i get the crap ones...

So if the HP dv6500t offered the 8600 GT (knowing the HP only comes with wxga) then why did you not consider the 1500 with xga? You know darn well that the wxga has the best odds of good screens. As crazy as it sounds, your best option may still be with a dell.. just this time order it with wxga instead of the higher res screens. You know as much as I do that there are far less complaints with the standard resolutions.

The cpu whine is more a Intel problem.. I hear about that problem with HP and other notebooks as well.

my dv2500 does not have whine. again its luck of the draw.

Only complaint i have with hp is it's touchpad kinda blows. and laptop itself gets a bit warm on the lap.

They had one of those on display in the Best Buy near me, and I'm afraid it had the grainiest screen in the store. Very dingy and grainy. The screen was at max brightness, so I tried brightening it through Display Manager while no one was looking. Still grainy. The problems with WSXGA+ on 15" screens apparently aren't limited to Dell. The Dell 1520 that was on display at the Dell kiosk had a sparkly screen, but didn't look as dingy as that Asus.

I've noticed that places like discountlaptops only offer WSXGA+ with matte screens on their 15" "gamer" laptops. I suspect there is a reason for this.

Getting a grainy screen is a matter of luck. I love my Asus, and would have it over any other laptop.

I know. The point I was trying to make is that the grainy 15" WSXGA+ screen problem is not limited to Dell.

I have a dv6500t and it does not get too warm.. But I hear the smaller dv2500 has a bit more heat. I can't complain about my HP. I think I got a good one. :)
I don't have any whine either and no static in the headphone jack.. NO cracks in the case and no visible build quality issues. My Dell experience will probably keep me away for a long time.. I doubt I will risk ordering again. I did this time against my better judgment.
