anyone with a m1210, do you guys have this consistent high pitch sound near the left side of the laptop. approximately above the harddrive toward the lcd. i wonder what the high pitched sound could be, bleh. it's not loud or anything, it's feint. but when i'm in the library, it drives me crazy.

well, if its where you say it is, thats approximately where the fan is. But it shouldn't make this high pitched noise you're talking about, it shouldn't make any noise besides the soft humming of the fan.

Do you hear that at least?

it's definately not the fan, it's a seperate sound apart from the fan. i'm thinking it could be the cpu?

One of the circuits probably shorted. I would call dell before other problems start showing up.

    I had the same problem...
The whiny noise would get worse when running on AC supply...
I called up Dell and their technician came over to replace the mobo, and that resolved the issue completely...

from What he told me, Apparently one the power circuit filter coils causes this whine...one whole batch of mobos had this issue...nothing to worry about, but if you don't like it, you can always ask them to replace the mobo...

I was entitled for onsite service so i got it fixed...If I'd had to ship it to Dell fo getting fixed, I'd probably not have done that...Your call though :)

I think i found the issue however. I got my wifi card replaced and the problem seemed to go away.

When you hear the sound turn off ur wifi and see if it goes away

It's not uncommon for the 945 chipset/Core processor combo to make some humming noise. If you look around the board there are tons of posts on it. Not just related to Dell either. There are some fixes for it. Probably should try it before you have people changing mobos out. Mine does it, but it doesn't bother me at all, as I usually have some music or a game going.
