hey all. so i'm considering buying an e6400 from the outlet and i've been trying for days to find a configuration that i'm happy with. i've noticed that the hardest to get "right" are the screen and battery which is where this question comes in.

when i get an outlet "scratch/dent" or "cert refurb" are the batteries the original ones or are they new? i ask because if they're the old ones, there isn't too much of a point in getting a 9 cell over 6 cell because the batteries have probably lost a bit of capacity already.

    thanks.

I believe the batteries supplied are the ones originally shipped with the product, but the only way to be sure is to email them directly.

If they have both degraded the same amount the 9-cell will still have a larger capacity and it would make as much sense to get the 9 cell if you want more battery life. Alternatively get an outlet systems with a 6 cell and buy a new 9 cell...best of both that way ;)

When I ordered my 9-Cell D630, my battery died abnormally early. However, due to the fact that this is a common issue/defect with the 9-Cell battery on the D630, it would be impossible for me to determine if it was due to the battery's age. Now i'm curious about this as well. :)

It's refurb. They would test it (see if it turns on), and ship it off...

They ship the battery that was originally shipped with the machine, so a refurb/scratch/dent would have a refurb battery.

HOWEVER, the battery is covered under a 1 year warranty (at least the Latitudes are) and if the capacity drops significantly, you can have it replaced under warranty.

I did this a couple of months ago on a Latitude E6400 I bought from the outlet (scratch & dent) the 9 cell it came with was not lasting very long and sometimes would go from 100% to 0% within a few minutes. started an IM with tech support, and they had a brand new battery on my door step the next morning. the new battery easily lasts me 8 to 10 hours.

I believe the inspirons are also covered under a 1 year battery warranty.

that's good to know, thanks a lot. i'll probably just stick with looking for a 9 cell then.

Stick with the 9 cell...better battery life..

And, I would have no qualms purchasing from the Outlet..It's still covered under the one year warranty, as describe above! :)

I've had nearly 10 laptops from the dell outlet and battery performance has never been an issue.
