Well, it only makes sense that other manufacturers have the same problems because they all source from the same major LCD makers....

The big difference from where I live is that I can physically inspect the Asus laptop before purchasing it unlike Dell.

Yeah, that's true. But I doubt they let you open the box to the system they are going to sell you and let you keep doing that until you find a system you like. Please correct me if I am wrong and, if I am, I would like to know what shop will let you rummage through all of their sealed boxes of systems.

It's pretty much the same thing with a Dell kiosk. You can play with the systems on display, but you don't really know what screen you will get until your order shows up....

And you can bet Dell knows the difference to. From what people say, the dell kiosk systems always look good.. Probably all LG lcds. But I have been saying this for some time, just stay away from the higher res screens.. Get the xga 1280 X 800 and save money and have a nicer screen to boot. :D

For the past one month or so the number of ppl who reported grainy screen with a res higher than WXGA is pretty less.... So it aint the RES which really is the matter.... But one chance still is that for the higher res the manufacturing process tends to be a lil tedious and hence chances of grainness is more...

Well it doesn't take a genius to know all laptop manufactures, Dell, Alienware, Acer.. all of them besides 3 or 4, one of which being Apple. They all have other companies manufacture the machines, they just stick the parts in you want and send it out the door. At most they might mod it, like a new lid cover here and so forth.

Frankly, at most HP, Dell w.e company, they just decide they want a new system, they sit down decide on the name, targeted audience the details, then they rather use a in house design team or hire a designer to design the laptop. Then they call up one of the 3 - 4 manufactures, lay down the ground work and the system gets made.

After the computer company does is stick a few computers in a box and try to simulate the shipping process like dropping the box repeatively and vibrating the hell out of it.

I know this applies to HP for sure cuz I was there 4 months back on a tour of the place.

so as far as one company being better then the other as far as systems go..give me a break, every computer pretty much was or has parts of it born in the same place as every other computer out there.. lol

Actually, Apple uses contract manufacturers too, just like Dell, HP, and all the other big brands.

Actually I believe I heard that Asus makes Apple notebooks. Can anyone confirm that?

Sure, I'll confirm it, but that still don't make it so! :p
