i've noticed that there is a lot of "sparkly" stuff on the screen and i've been wondering if that is normal. i noticed this on the first couple of days that i got the laptop but i wasn't completley sure if it was the screen or if my eyes are just playing tricks with me (i have faulty eyes). my friend and sister also sees the "sparklies" so its apparently not just me. is this normal? or should i go for a exchange before the 21 days are up?

what notebook do you have? what screen does it have? what do you mean "sparkly stuff"? Can it be something on the screen that can be wiped off?

I have an E1505 and I have no sparkle. Everyone was telling me how bad Dell's screens were. I got it and was delightfully surprised at how the screen was. It is clear, no dead pixels, and is not sparkly.

    Yours must have a problem.

i have a e1705 with the true brite upgrade.

well basically the "sparkly" stuff reminds me of when you try to clean a monitor with water when the monitor is on. it'll leave some 'sparkly' multi-colored water behind if you do not wipe it all off. its somewhat like that but on a smaller scale. i don't particularly notice it when i have a game on, but when its on a white background (like these forums) you can REALLY notice it. it is not wipable or anything, i've tried it :p i wish i have a better description but i really can't

Sounds like a Samsung LCD panel. I have one of these on my E1505, and there is a slight 'sparkle' -- very much like you've described -- with white backgrounds. I've seen others with Samsung WSXGA+ panels complain about the same thing. It doesn't really bother me much, but I would have preferred a different panel. Too late now.

I haven't paid much attention to the E1705 discussions, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 17-inch Samsung screens are similar to the 15.4-inch WSXGA+ screens.

Tokuman -- Dell uses several different LCD vendors. It seems that you were lucky and got one of the better screens.
