1537 studio which has been a work hourse up until now. Discovered the "alt" key aon right side as hopped off, found it along with a clear plastic tubing peice in my lazy boy. any idea how to reset this without having to send it in. Any info would be appreciated.

Is the rest of the key housing still on the key? If it is, likely you can just press it back on. If the housing is missing you need a new keyboard.

The studio keyboards are complete junk. I've had to get two replacements for keys falling off.

Depends on what you are comparing it to. The Studio keyboards are okay to type on, beats the new 15R chicklet (horrid) and last generation (Dell's squishy keyboard). My dad's Studio 1558 is okay, but been used to Latitudes and ThinkPads... -
