hi i recently purchased the dell studio 17 with i5 processor,4 gb ram and 5650 but the games run awful on it cod4 runs like crap it jitters while playing dont know whats causing it?
i have tried everything from formatting a few times.i think i have installed all the drivers properly and i used 10.4 mobility drivers for graphic card.could someone please give me a guide on the sequence of installing the proper drivers for this laptop?or is the laptop not built for gaming? i thought games would fly on this laptop with that spec. im so dissapointed because i forked out a lot of money for this so i could game on it and do other stuff.im thinking of trying to send it back if i cant fix this problem please help.

Let us know your exact specs in total. I assume you have the 1GB vid.
Are you in Win7 Ultimate?
Remember you are using a 64bit OS and Architecture.
I'm running Crysis, Titan Quest all run in max vid with no problems in speed and clarity.
Good luck -
thanks for the reply it was one of these i purchased they are manufacturer refurbished do you think thats anything to do with it?

Make sure you have the latest Direct X installed.
With 4GB mem and 1GB Video Mem you shouldn't have a problem.
I also don't use the laptop CD/DVD player as they are too slow.
I have an external firwire/USB Blu-Ray drive that smokes with speed.
Who knows that might make a difference.
Have you done a diagnostics to check everything? -
its a refurbished unit im beginning to think that could be the problem.i have latest direct x installed and latest graphic drivers,is this the chipset driver i need to install Intel Management Engine Interface and the turbo boost driver? yes the cd player is very slow i notice the eject button for it doesnt work now either
how do i do a diagnostic check? many thanks for the help

On reboot when you see the Dell logo......Press F12
on new screen.....TAB down to Diagnostics...
Go thru all the Diagnostics.
It could easily take several hours with the lengthy memory and hard drive tests.
It is worth it.
Hope you still have the diagnostic partition. -
yes i never formatted that partition
ill try it tonight thanks.should i be able to play cod4,bfbc2 good on this laptop? or am i dreaming?i put on fraps and it runs about 60fps on cod4 then when turning round at certain points in the game it will drop to 30 fps?really annoying.
