I have a question, what can be upgraded to a dell vostro 1500?![]()
-
What do you have in it right now?
-
HDD, RAM - Easy
CPU - Moderately difficult
GPU - Impossible with the X3100, and if you have a dedicated card the swap will be difficult and you're options are so limited it isn't worth it. -
4g of ram, core 2 duo 1.4 800mhz, nvidia geforce 8400m gs, 160g of hdr
-
You can upgrade your processor to any c2d 7xxx or 8xxx processor, though it voids the warranty. You can upgrade your graphics card to the 8600gt and it also voids the warranty. And the hard drive can be upgraded to any sata 2.5" hard drive (currently 200gb 7200rpm or 320gb 5400rpm).

where can I get the processor???
-
Hi alexlm and nizzy1115!
I'm thinking of getting a Vostro 1500. What do you guy's think of yours? -
Its a bit chunky, heavy, but cheap with good specs and great battery life. I would feel safe using it as a club against a mugger because its that solid feeling.
If you can afford to spend more, get the xps1530, but if your on a budget, the 1500 isnt a bad laptop for the price. -
hi mario666 I am really happy with mine!
-
hey nizzy1115 can you help me find a c2d processor plz!
-
Thanks guys!
I'll put in an order for one at the end of the month. -
nice! what specs?
-
1.4 C2D, X3100 graphics, 2GB RAM, 250GB HDD, WXGA+ (or maybe just WXGA).
I'm not a power user, and I don't play games, so a better specced machine would be a waste of money (and electricity) for me.
What's yours got in it? -
4gb of ram, nvidia geforce 8400m gs, 1.4 c2d, 160g hdr
you should ask for the nvidia card! -
What is the major difference between the M1530 and the Vostro 1500 if they are configured with the same processor, RAM, 8600 GT card other than the size, weight, and XPS support?
I just shipped back my M1530 and I am trying to decide between taking another chance with another M1530 or going with a Vostro 1500 with a 2.2 processor, 3gb RAM, 7200rpm 160gb drive, and 8600GT video card. I don't really care about the thickness and weight or the supposedly better XPS support which has not really impressed me.
It seems that the Vostro has a more solid construction.
I went through all of the stuff to get an LG panel for my M1530 and then the tech messed up some wires and I did not have confidence that there would not be problems in the future, although I ran a complete diagnostics on the system with no errors. I just had bad feelings towards it. The new screen was wonderful. This time around, I think that I will get the 1440 resolution since everyone seems to be pretty happy the first time around with them. -
It's a good time to order Vostro. I ordered mine yesterday using the second coupon.
For Vostros:
$350 off Notebooks over $999 - use Dell Coupon GBM7HX$KL48KVP
$500 off Notebooks over $1,249 - use Dell Coupon Q2TZNN?6PH3SLW
Expires: 2/27/08 -
you should buy a vostro 1500!
-
The 8600M GT in the XPS is the GDDR3 version, while the 8600M GT in the Vostro is the DDR2 one. The former is the faster card.
-
thanks for the coupon.
I ordered a Vostro 1500 today with T7500 2.2, 160gb 7200rpm, 1440x900 display
I hope that it satisfies me more than the M1530 that I returned.
I wonder how much of a difference there is in the video card memory speed and whether one would really notice between DDR2 and DDR3? -
In all honesty, I really think mine is bottlenecking at the 1.5 c2d.
If I run a program that puts CPU usage up just a little, I have a noticeable decrease by like 10fps in Call of Duty 4 -
i am happy with mine but I want more!
-
They say at most 30% difference. But at lower resolutions [read: WXGA and lower], it's around 10% [read: around +3fps]. But really, don't expect to game at higher than WXGA on a GPU with 128-bit memory width, unless it's an older game.
I really don't know any more specifics, but it's not as different as, say, 8600M GT and GS. Now that's different. The lack of stream processors and the corresponding shader power in the GS severely cripples it when compared to the GT.
dell vostro 1500 upgrades??
