hi, im just wondering which dell laptop of size 14 inch or larger has the best battery life
i know the e1405 of was supposed to get 5-8 on a 9 cell which is amazing and id like that, but i slept on the deal and have no one to blame but myself now

    1) do people think this ~600 coupon off the e1405 will surface again, if so, about how long do you think it will be
    2) can the vostro 1400 battery life even compare to e1405?
    3) would a macbook core duo processor give me better battery life than a vostro 1400

    thanks in advance

The D630 looks pretty nice, actually. Of course, it's personal preference.

By the way, for best battery life, get the integrated graphics. Otherwise the Macbook will win the comparison because it has integrated graphics. Of course, if you're gaming, you'll want dedicated graphics. The only reason I can think of why the Vostro 1400 (or Inspiron 1420) would get worse battery life than the e1405 if that the 1400 is offered with a dedicated graphics card, and most people here seem to choose that option, and it eats battery. Oh yeah, another reason might be that the 1400 comes with Vista. But you can turn off Aero if you want and that should help battery life a little.

My 1400 gets the same battery life as my fiance's macbook, and it has the dedicated graphics card. I would guess that with the integrated option the battery life would be superior.

i did a LOT of research on battery lifes and the D630 is pretty mcuh your only choice for 14", unless you want to go Lenovo R61 or T61 w/ media bay battery

Yea seconded on the m1210. The 6 cell gives me a solid 4-4.5 of writing adn browsing with wireless and the 9 cell gets 6.5. The two combined really destroy most anything else except maybe the old Fujitsu lifebooks. The Core Duo has significantly less life than the C2D

ive grown quite comfortable with the 12.1" on the 1210 too. not to mention thats its the same resolution that comes as base config with the 14's and even 15s

My D630 lasts an average of 4h45 minutes while surfing with FF and using MS office word. Thats with a 6 cell battery!!!

I'm going to buy the bay battery soon, can't wait to see what kind of juice I can get :D

    p.s. thats with vista

I'm really liking my D630 as well. I have a 9 cell battery. Only had the notebook for a week, and haven't had a chance to really test the battery yet, but I have a feeling that it'll last quite a while.

D630.. 9-cell battery= 5-6 hours (web surfing, ms word, and live web streaming radio, with AIM running in the background).

it isn't hideous, have you seen one? Other lines look tacky and draw too much attention with colors, this notebook is very professional looking and will never go out of style.

hideous= bulky plastic laptops with colors that have the capability of flagging down airplanes

    LOL

As another user said, laptop appearance is a matter of personal preference, and I preferred the more refined look of the Latitude D630.

1330 lasts on a 9cell 6 hours, no sweat, even with dedicated 8400gs :) I did need to tweak it a little but it works fine :)

The T61 is terrible for battery life. We're talking about 3:30 with the 7 cell browsing. The media bay battery adds about 1:30, max 2 hours to that.

Concur. My tests have shown that it'll last 5:30 give or take a bit with Wifi on and 6/8 screen brightness. This is also with the dedicated graphics.
