I ordered and XPS M140 yesterday so I could try this laptop out and do a review. Here's what I have coming with an est. ship date of Nov. 16, I'll post a short review and pics soon after getting it and a full review will follow. Have to say, pretty dissapointed with the price, I've paid much less for Inspiron systems in the past with similar specs -- no coupon was available though.

Dell has conditioned people to buy on price. It will be interesting to see if their strategy pays off.

Not too bad of a price but with coupon would be a lot better. If it had 1GB RAM would be better but 512MB is a start. Would be interesting to see a direct size comparison image with the i6000. Maybe stacked on top of the i6000 to get an idea. I'm thinking the 14.1" won't be a drastic downsize in comparison to the 6000. Still, it may be light enough to a 'mobile' machine compared to desktop replacement.

Can't wait to read the review. Ship date Nov 16, wow Dell are REALLY in a HURRY aren't they! (Ahem, sarcasm)

Lucky, you guys have the coupons, no Inspiron is expensive when compared to the competition.

So realistically, is $1500US worth the i700m? (Or for that matter, worth the XPS M140?) That is how much i'd be paying, minimum, for those machines here in Canada. I know, price is high. Flip.

Hey guys i have a question? Do you think that the XPS M140 can handle CAD programs and 3DMax with the Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 900 and if i have 1GB memory or is better to go with 6000.:decision:

What exactly are those programs for? 3D Animation I persume? Is it high-end graphic rendering or the 'lower CPU usage' kind of work? I don't know a whole lot regarding the various programs. I have only used a select amount: Adobe, Macromedia Flash ect.

Actually is for my brother he is in the 3rd year in college for architech. With the AutoCad he design buildings or houses and with the 3DMAX he makes videos in 3D of the space that he design.

Be sure to get the Dell 6000d then. 'd' standing for dedicated graphics. And max out, or come close to maxing out, the system for your bro's 3D requirements.

Hello everyone. On Nov 05 I had my friend who lives in Dallas, TX ordered a M140 for me (I'm living in Saigon, Vietnam). For some reasons I went for this XPS thing instead of i6000D, which is cheaper (w/ coupons :p) and (somehow) more powerful. The subtotal price was $1,034 ($999 + $25 for TrueLife WXGA + $10 for Windows XP MCE Back up CD). It said that the preliminary ship date would be Dec 01 :( . And my friend will be leaving US on Dec 10  ...
And now I just realized I missed the Power Adapter option ($99 more) when I was customizing this notebook. Does that mean my notebook will be delivered with no adapter at all? I've checked around Dell site, and found a Combination Power Adapter for Select Dell Latitude/Inspirion/Precision / XPS M140 Notebooks - 65-Watt for $67.15 (after $11.85 discount). Should I be disturbing my friend one more time for this little but troublesome power thing? Or just going to the computer stores where I lives and ask for any 65-Watt adapter would be fine?

This Dell XPS M140 is my first notebook  . Any advice would be helpful. Thank you :D .

abaxter, you said you will post a review about M140 after Nov 16. Man, I'm waiting to read that review...

Anakin, you should be fine. The power adapter option is only there for people who want more than one.

@Saggy: Many thanks for your encouragement. I feel so relieved.
Well this may sound like a dumb question, but... I just don't get it: once the adapter is included, shouldn't it be listed in the Order Summary? Mine was almost the same as abaxter's though.
