dell's 1520 nvidia 8600gts...

are they in ddr2 or ddr3?

and more importantly....is their a noticeable difference??

 

well, its actually only the 8600gt. not sure about ddr though...

 

well i have been told its DDR3 by my rep and he said if he was wrong that he would give me £50 cashback,
not too much different but memory will be able to run faster therefore providing a little more smoothness

If you really care that much, pick up the phone nearest you, and call Dell, that simple. Dell people know a little more than forum people about the matter.

 

Not to test your will or anything but me and a lot of people have called and asked, and a lot either got pretty sure or I really don't know as an answer. Personally in my reciept of purchase it states ddr2. So until someone gets their hands on one finally, we really won't know.

 

i went to a dell stand at the mall today and he told me it was ddr2.
there still seems to be debate.

but Anyways! i really want to know if it makes that a big a difference.

and dell offers the 256mb card. is the 512mb card significantly better too?

 

oh oh, the dell UK website use to say DDR3 but now the graphics cards all say DDR2!

 

Strange thing, last time I chatted with a Dell rep he told me he was 100% it was DDR3. So I decided to ask again and see what another rep would say. The new rep said DDR2. Just to be 100% sure I made sure to clarify that this was graphics card memory and not system RAM (which was confusing to the first Dell rep I chatted with). The new Dell rep told me that he/she cannot help me and I need to call technical support, not a sales rep.

 

It was DDR3 in the french configurator, but DDR2 on all the other pages. According to the first benchmarks, it seems to be DDR2, and I gave the info to my Dell contact. Since yesterday it's written DDR2 everywhere. Maybe it won't be the same in the US, but that's the current situation in France...

 

I read that DDR2 was the same as GDDR3 (or whatever the graphic card memory is called). So, when one rep says DDR2 and another says DDR3, they are probably saying the same thing.... To bad they can't all get on the same lingo page.

 

There is DDR, DDR2, and DDR3 in which have their own speed limits. So ddr2 and ddr3 can be same if the clock speed is the same but %99.99 ddr2 is a much slower RAM type then ddr3.
