as a college student, would adding the dellcare protection pack (plus with 3 year warranty and lojack security) be necessary/wise? there's definitely a huge amount difference from the price of the actual laptop (~$275) but would it be worth it? only adding the lojack system is $119.

I got it in my system. I did the calculations and found that through selecting the 3 yr warranty dellcare protection bundle, i save a lot with the 10% off the entire system but not as much to cover the entire cost of the 3 yr warranty.

Its excellent for me since I maxed out all specs on my XPS M1330....kinda minus RAM. I saved $230 through the 10% off even though the net gain is -$40, I win 3 yrs of warranty for $40 bucks! thats pretty good.

I'm a college student too and I'm constantly vigilant against getting my laptop stolen by thieves when I left it around in the library or in my rooms while I'm gone.

thanks for the info. i was worried that it'd be a complete rip-off. i'm still unsure whether i should get it since i am usually really careful about keeping my valuables safe, but i guess you never know in a college dorm. i'm wondering if a laptop desk lock would be enough though...

im going to college soon, and i got the dell care plus with my alpine white 1420. i believe i got a pretty decent dell for the configurations i chose.

i take care of my stuff pretty well, but there are jsut things you cant control -- someone visiting your dorm might accidentally water on it or your room mate drop it from your desk. the accidental damage and theft recovery is a huge benefit with the 3 year warranty.

getting the dell care plus made me more secure about bringing a laptop to college.

get it! I think it is COMPLETELY necessary!! I would never purchase a computer w/out one, especially being a college student!

Can you still get the dell care package even after you ordered your laptop? I'm kind of regretting not getting it, seeing as I'm going to be living on residence.

yes, if you have purchased it recently you can still add it; im not sure if its 15 or 30 days after you receive it. just call dell and try to negotiate a cheaper price.

just so you know, a 3 year warranty + accidental damage/lo jack costs about $300. use that as your base price to see if you're getting a good deal or not.
