Yeah, the HDMI is a nice addition... I bet its also got the hardware issues the 1520 had resolved(CPU whine and Audio jack buzz)
I suppose i'll hold off... We might get lucky and they may revise it to hold a 8700(since its clear the M1730 will be getting a 8800 in the near future)

This might be one of dells shortest product life's... The current 1520's arnt even 6 months old.

This is most likely the update that makes it compatible with Penryn processors, and it looks much better.

It will have the same chassis (as for dimensions) as the 1520/1521, thats for sure...and mostly the same interior. Otherwise it would be a lot sunk costs for Dell to change major things in the ordering and building process in 1 month.

Lets just hope that the BIOS, motherboard and graphics assembly will be compatible with the current 1520 because then we can upgrade...Dell would be a real pig if not...

By the way, what about the Vostro?

I just got my 1520 yesterday and I think that I will be doing a return. I have static and humming (almost like online dial-up) and I don't think that it is acceptable for it to still exist. If the sound had not been problematic I would have reasonably happy I think. I am not sure that the problem will be fixed with the 1525 but they are doing a change out for some reason.

I donno guys, the chassis look all m1330'ish like I said a few times now elsewhere.

It'd be nice if it was the same. Because if he did introduce new parts, like graphics, cpu, mobo what every, it'll be a easy drop'in upgrade.

Like I said. **** you Dell..

    sigh.. lol

I don't like dell replacing a model so fast...normally when they do that, they do it because there were too many problems with the last. Anyone see how long others models last? some are for years if they are great, others only months if they are crap....*cries*. I was planing on ebaying my laptop and buying a new one next year anyways...

The new model looks the same same to me. I am trying to find differences (externally) but can't.

I think it's the same chassis and all just a refresh of internal components big enough to get a "5" model number at the end to denote the new hardware.

I heard the new systems were the replacements and will be priced similar to the current models. If you still want an Inspiron 1520 buy now with coupons/discounts or find one in outlet for even less!

That's a scary theory man wow.. lol..

I hope it's just because the 1520 name is soiled and they feel they need to make a few revisions and rename it to reclaim they're tittle or something.

Due to all the screen issues they've had.

Let's just all keep our fingers crossed and hope that it's the same chassis and such, so if there are any leaps forward in technology, we can swap out if needed.

It looks like they moved the headphone jacks to the front. Wow. Thats a complete total different headphone jack layout. Being that Dell said the noisy jacks was from a bad layout design (leaked powerpoint doc) this makes total sense. Also, they now caved in and included HDMI which many people criticized the 1520 for not having at the June 07 launch.

If Dell starts shipping these in January, then that means the 1500/1520 only lasted 7 months. Thats not a very long time and I think this new system is like windows 98se was to the original windows 98. Or what XP sp2 was to the original XP. definitely not a good time to buy a 1520. The 1520 jacks will probably never be fixed adequately and it will never have HDMI. I can only imagine this will anger many who are experiencing issues with headphone jacks/screens on their 1500/1520's and are outside the 21/30 day return period. There is nothing worse then when a manufacturer fixes problems by introducing a completely new model.. Its looking like the 1500/1520 will be one of the dell systems that did not shine so bright.

This new system looks similar to HP's dv6500t. Put black keys and a shiny back lid and it would be a look alike. With the new A04 MB for the m1330 and the 1525/26 I predict 2008 will be see more smooth sailing then the later half of 07 for Dell.

I buy my 6400, next week, blamo it's gone. I buy my 1520, next week, Blamo, it's gone.

I'm starting to see a pattern.

I just hope when i go to buy my Girlfriend a laptop in jan/feb i can get a good deal on a liquidation model if they're switching over.

Is dell just releasing an update for the 1520 with the new 1525/26? Is there also going to be an update for the 1420 with lets say a 1425 or a 1725 for the 1720? Since the 1520 seems to suffer from the bulk of complaints, it may be Dell is going to update the 1520 first? If so, like I said before, the timing of this is probably sooner then Dell had planned. More like, Dell had to push the update to the 1520 ahead of schedule do fix the design flaws in the original 1520. Dell already admitted to a bad layout in the jacks. As I figured, the only way to fix it was to move them up front.. and from the pic, it looks like thats exactly what they did. They also had the smarts to put the HDMI in at this time. I think the 1420 and 1720 will also be updated but the 1520 needed it worse.. thus they are pushing that out sooner. This is pure speculation on my part and my 2.5 cents on the matter.. But it makes perfect sense to me and If I were running things at dell.. this is exactly what I would have done.

Put some decent screens on this and Dell may have a real winner. They will know doubt sell more BD drives now that it also sports HDMI.

No surprise as the replacement cycle for the Dell Inspiron line has been 6 months for the last 10 years at least... The latitude line has a slower refresh period of about 18 mohths I believe it is.

Also, I'd never expect the 1520 to get an HDMI port... If it were magically given it I wouldn't be able to get "upgraded" to it anyways so not on my list of cares...

My i1520 is perfect for me so I'm not at all interested in these refreshes.

I dont care about the hdmi ports. The only thing that i am wondering is if that a new gpu is done for the 1525/1526 will the 1520's be able to upgrade to it?

I had ordered a laptop from Dell a few days ago and decided to cancel after stumbling across a 300 dollar coupon which allowed my to stay within my budget while getting a better computer. I am about to reorder and wondering if I should hold off for the new release 1525. I'm going to spend right at 1000. Do you think that the prices will be the same, or will the new model not have coupons that are as good as the ones for the 1520?

Let me tell you what I would do (actually, what I DID) - I used, as you said, a 300$ coupon and got a good computer for a good price. I know nothing about/of 1525 and I wouldn't wait for something I'm not sure about...

Coupons may expire, so make your decision.

Thanks...i'm not one of these picky computer people anyway. I've never had a laptop, and i'm getting a great deal on this one, i'm pretty excited about it, just wanted to make sure no one thought there were any HUGE issues with the 1520...

Allison, I second the opinion to get the 1520. Why waste that $300 coupon pending something that has no definite release date. You can probably use that $300 towards ram upgrades, better HD, or just opt for the lower purchase price. Either way, I'm sure you'll love it. Having the convinience of a laptop is awesome.

What would be cool? An Inspiron 1725 with 8800m GTS. It's possible. Consider that the e1705 had a 7900GS as an option.

Also the option of WSXGA+ (1680x1050).
