Not sure about the other vostro models but here goes:
When on AC power, you can not use a USB headset. I have tried different headsets, all with the same result.
You get a humming/buzz sound which sounds like a bad ground.
It's really a design flaw. The power port and USB ports are not isolated from each other.
When I unplug the AC and run on battery, the headset works fine.
Go here and take a listen - Yeah I sound like a dork

Headsets used - Plantronics DSP 400 (3 of them all gave the same results)

Please search the forums before you post. This is very old news.

What terms do I search under?

headphone whine
dell sound whine
Use your imagination. -
Ummm headphone whine only returns this thread. Maybe it should have been a sticky.
USB hum doesn't show any results specific to what I posted. USB Hum 1500 - same deal. So I should search for hours to report a design flaw. Great suggestion -
Still doesn't help. It has to be very specific for the Vostro 1500 problem and not the other laptop models. Need some more docs to show to the tech I am online with now

He gave you links to over 4000 pages. Thats not enough? Your crazy!

He said he wanted something specific to the Vostro 1500.
But the problem isn't specific to the Vostro 1500.
