i was planning to get a dell inspiron 1520 with 8600m gt using dell coupons (i can't afford dell xps) and when i checked it today, the option for any dedicated video cards were GONE! i thought i clicked something wrong, so i double checked it, and it still wasn't there. do you guys know what's going on?

edit: dell inspiron 1420 has a 8400m gs available and 1720 has both 8400m gs and 8600m gt available. only 1520 does not have it.

You must be looking at the Dell Inspiron 1525, scroll down and the 1520 is available on the same page.

I thought they were phasing out the 1520? How come it's still available after all this time?

omg. I think you're right, and plus all the colors are free....
this is the end of the 1520 - they're trying to liquidate the color lids and are out of video cards
-i'm not sure, but i think the 8400GS and 8600GT for the inspiron 1520 only fit the 1520...

    Wow..it is the 1520..

    I would suggest a Vostro 1500 then.

Yes. I just noticed as well . . . I he said it there clearing out the 1520s. Look at the Vostro 1500.

EDIT: You could call Dell and see if they would configure it with a 8600m . . . maybe they would even cut you a good deal if they are liquidating.

EDIT: Also look in the Outlet for one with a 8600m.

Colors are still $25 (a colored lid is included in the price, but you can remove it), but it does look like they've removed the dedicated graphics option. I'm glad I got mine when I did (unless, of course, they drop the price of the m1530 next week).

intresting...i checked, and if you choose the lowest config then the lids are $25, but at the medium/high config they're free...
