i did a clean vista install as soon as i got my m1330. but stand by it uses about 800 mb ram with aero, and as far as i know, battery last longer in XP. so i want to install XP.

but, i heard people are having driver problem when they are installing XP in m1330, specially the sata driver.

can some one who has xp in their m1330 tell me, are ALL hardwares working correctly? (wireless, sata, video, HDMI, webcam, usb, ieee, optical bla bla... ALL)

What about the option to have XP put in instead of Vista during production?

No dell xps m1330 is made for vista, not xp. Search the forums, all the drivers work fine except for the audio. There is a solution.

No i don't plan on installing XP, I like vista in all its beauty :)

well, i installed xp on my 1330. its works perfectly. my only problem is figuring out how to expand the partition where my xp is. its running out of space. once i do that, im all set. all hardware works correctly, bt, wifi, fingerprint reader, webcam, its all fine. i followed the guide in the dell section for installing xp on m1330. im a noob and have never done this before, but with the guide, i did it perfectly (except for partition size).

It's very possible to run all devices with their drivers, including SATA-related drivers, perfectly on XP. I installed XP, but for some reason, it ran far slower than Vista did. Maybe I was imagining it, but I switched back. I can switch again if/when I need to...

my install is dual boot with xp and vista. i installed xp using an xp reinstall disc from my dad's dell desktop (legal?) and im guessing it has built in sata drivers seeing as i didnt need to install any hard drive drivers.

I was really planning to install XP when I got my 1330 but I had to use it right away and haven't had time to do so. And in the meantime, I've gotten used to Vista. So I just uninstalled all the bloatware and cleaned out some services and startups that I didn't need and it runs pretty well. Now of course I've got programs and files in there that I don't want to have to redo, so I'll probably just stick with Vista at this point. One thing I do need to do though is wipe out that recovery partition... I really don't see the point that it serves for a computer savvy person.

I've got mine in dual boot Vista and XP Pro. Works like a charm in XP, except when I close the lid, the LCD does not shut off. Any ideas why? I have video drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, version 163.67

Yea, and I have the "Close Lid" action set to "Do nothing" which usually allows the LCD to turn off, or at least it did on my other laptop in XP. I'm thinking that since the M1330 was designed for Vista, then XP is just not going to work as well as Vista. Also, I have noticed that I get about 30 minutes less on battery in XP than I do in Vista.

Looks like I'm on the same boat. Got XP to run but the LCD won't turn off when I shut the lid.

Installed XP the same day i got the notebook.
Following the guide in this forum i got everything to work within a couple of hours without too much of work.
Installed Vista in a second partition, working fine as well.
Only thing that was giving me trouble was the fingerprint reader, for whatever reason it doesn't like to use the same fingers for XP and Vista. Whatever.

I have no clue why i still have Vista installed, guess its because i'd like to use my TurboMemory from time to time.

99% of the time running WinXp on it, working like a charm.

PS: If somebody is working on a TurboMemory driver for XP, drop me a PN please!

xp installed... took less than an hour, and all drivers work!

hitting power button to being idle at desktop takes about 40sec, where vista took about 53-63

i hope i can do better!

The applications I use are compatible in both OSs. Never found the need to go back to XP.

I have my M1330 on dual boot for the past 2 months. Nothing negative to report. Everything works. Audio, sleep, hibernate....

Most of the drivers I used were the XP versions for the D630. XP install CD included.

XP runs much faster on a friend's M1330 than Vista did.

The only problem I have is that it does not recover from Standby properly, though that could be the video drivers.

I even got it to run on AHCI - I installed it using ATA, not AHCI, and followed someone's instructions in another thread (can't remember who/where now, sorry - I'd love to give him the credit) and installed the Intel matric drivers with -a, then updated the Intel IDE driver in Device Manager ENDING IN 2828 ONLY with the extracted SATA driver, then switched back to AHCI in the BIOS and it worked perfectly.

I've noticed that battery life is a good 30-60 minutes LESS in XP than in Vista Home Premium. I have BIOS A02.
