Hey guys,
first post, have been researching laptops for a couple months, really like the latitudes, especially the 820. Can i drop in a different graphics card in it though, probably a stupid question, i have heard its kinda impossible, but wanted confirmation, any help would be appreciated.
-
Generally, no. I would reccomend an Inspiron if you're looking for more power.
-
Well, I think if you wanted to upgrade your NVS 110 to a 120, you'd be OK, but I'm not too familiar with the procedure - I'd imagine it would be similar to that of upgrading an Inspiron. And you definately can't upgrade between lines (ex: upgrading your Latitude with an Inspiron GPU).
-
I doubt you could i'm affraid. At the moment it isn't really a viable option to go around upgrading graphics cards. More than that it will invalidate your warranty
-
ok thanks all, i don't think im going to go inspiron though, i just don't like how it looks and feels, as long as i can do some decent gaming im a happy man, I'm waiting for "santa rosa" anyhoo, lets see where the notebook industry stands then.

Unfortunately the best thing you can get from the E1505 is the x1400, which from what I hear is pretty similar in performace to the Quadro 120. But there are much better solutions out there. Any Asus with x1600 would be much better. Hell, the W3J is only 14" and it's got an x1600. But if gaming isn't your top priority, then you'd be fine.

yeah, I have heard many good things about both Asus and Toshiba. The problem with those companies is that I can't customize to the same level as Dell or HP home. But I guess I can't get the best of everything.

I've got a NVS 120m, and I got 2020 3D mark 05 which is better than an X1400 just so you know, its really quite powerful
-
yeah, my 110m flys with an OC on it. I can play BF2 at all high settings with no skipped frames at all. 3Dmark05 is 2054 with my sound card and current config shown below!

Thats great to hear, whoah, did they just change over to these new graphics cards? The only game I think I would really play up would be LOTR battle for Middle Earth II, that game is fun as heck(thought I dunno how different the PC version is from Xbox 360). Now I wonder if I should just wait for the 800 Mhz FSB and a/b/g/n wireless card in Santa Rosa, or just get a decent deal on a latitude now.
-
Man I don't think I can wait much longer though, I'm so close to just getting it and to heck with the waiting.
-
-
I cant wait either. Thats why I bought a refurb dell latitude D820 for 1100 shipped. I plan on selling on fleabay when the santa rosa chipset comes out. -
I looked into this to consider upgrading my Dell D820. It is claimed that Dell will sell you a nvidia 7900 gs for $200 and there is a website that demonstrates a Dell notebook upgrade .

In fact, it took me a couple of calls to tech support at dell and a call back to confirm that an upgrade to the 7900 gs should work and to get the right part number. Since tech support at dell said the part would fit and should work and gave me the part number--my guess is that it is possible. However, I did not follow through on the upgrade. I would try calling Dell upgrades and have customer reps put in the request for a tech to tell you if the upgrade will fit and work, and you will need the part number. -
*BUMP*
Hey I might be receiving an old D820 that I would like to use. Of course the graphics are rubbish, this particular one has the Intel Media Accelerator 950. Just wondering if you had any more information on the possibility of an upgrade and if I might be able to get that part number off you?
