Hi, this isnt a thread about what should i buy but i just wondered if anyone could tell me the difference between the two is apart from looks, graphics card, small weight difference and the finger print.

What else makes the xps 1530 £150+ more than the inspiron 1525.

    thanks

looks, graphics card, small weight difference and rumored XPS support.
Also XPS has full Penryn CPU's line up whereas Insparion stops at T8300 (at least on US site) + XPS has more choice in the display options including WXGA+ LED.

    Slot loading optical drive?

Not much more than that, really. Which is more than worth the extra 300 dollars for most people. You might have some "premium" support and some miscellaneous accessories with the XPS, but all support sucks anyways and the accessories are cheap. The XPS also has some slightly higher high-end configuration options, but I'm assuming we're talking about base configurations here.
