first of all let me apologize for any errors in typing... Somehow all the context menus, stgart items and editable fields have turned black. The box where you type text is black. I can see the cursor move, but no text appears...same with the start bar, the start menue and any right click items... I have tried to open up the device manager, but i cant see where my video drivers are because they're all blacked out...anyone else ever encounter something like this?
very frustrated and i don't want to reinstall windows just to fix something dumb like this...i don't recall having changed any settings that would have led to this wierd display setting...i have an x1400 and windows mce running if that makes a difference. I was going to try to restore the default video settings, but i canont tell where they are because everything is blacked out...i can't booting into safe mode does nothing to change this issue. thanks for any help..again i apologize for the mistakes in spelling...i cant see ****![]()

Well, have you tried going into Safe Mode for Windows yet? That might yield a clue. Let the forum know after you try it.

Did you change your display appeareance? What you are describing doesn't sound like a problem with your video card driver, but somehow you've changed the appeareance of XP. Goto Control Panel-->Display-->appeareance tab.

I'm sorry if i wasn't clear... I HAAVE booted into safe mode, nothing changes...Yes, Southern Girl I have tried changing a few settings, but it's very difficult to try and see where to click because all of the menues and tabs are black. I cannot see a thing. I just have to ramdomly mouse over and click to change settings...

After looking on another machine that i have with xp...there doesn't seem to be aby setting that i have changed which would amke this penomenon appear.... i really don't want to reformat..although this may be my onlyu option?? I would try a system restore but i canot see any of theoptions because of the blakness...maybe a windows restore session using the xp disk? te repair console i mean...thanks for all the input

AFAIK, you can't restore through the XP disc. You could try to repair it, but usually repairing XP only fixes registery issues and I don't see this being a registery issue. I honestly don't know what is wrong.
I don't want to suggest it but you might have to format. -
