It's rather mediocre right now because it's basically the same as the m1530 spec-wise, but with an inferior GPU. This is the initial release though, when they start putting Montevino CPU's and better GPU's in there, it'll really shine. Notice the price - it's way cheaper than the XPS line, it's likely the existing spec will become the bottom-line specification.

That said, I don't exactly regret buying an m1330 recently yet.

its not even cheaper if you want a long warranty, as you can get the 1499 xps dea with 600 dollars in savings(most of which is the warrenty, but if you want that, its good), and configuring a similar studio would be more expensive since it doesn't have any equivalent deal

definiately getting the xps 1530 when I get a laptop in a few weeks. I just hope they don't change the 1499 deal too much by then, as now that it comes with the led screen its perfect

Well the 25% off coupon was already rare to begin with though it happened starting end of april all the way to June 13th. I think Dell is probably like "Uh, if you missed out on a deal that went for almost two months long... you deserve to pay higher prices."

Personally I think its unlikely for them to come out with a coupon as they want the most attention to the new Studio line that is released. Though there may be a chance that they will, I have a feeling that they won't. Who knows. If they do, it would have to be sometime before Montevina is released. Hopefully by early July?

I think it fills a niche. It's a little unfair to blast it just because the GPU isn't up to XPS standards. I don't know that Dell ever claimed it was supposed to compete directly with the M1530 as a gaming notebook. I see it as a multimedia notebook, and it doesn't really require a gaming GPU for that.

I'm glad I have the M1530, but I think the Studio will be pretty attractive to someone wanting something a little nicer than a base Inspiron but doesn't care about gaming.

Not to mention, no 7200RPM drives.

It is just a multimedia notebook, nothing more. Stop complaining about horrible GFX card on the Studio, cause the new Inspiron replacements that are non-Studio lack HDMI, knocked down to 3 USB ports, and a lack of many other drives. I'm pretty sure it will have an even worse gfx card that the Studio.

Actually I saw a 160GB 7200rpm drive on the German Dell site, since I started looking from wich countries is it available.
But they just got launched, give 'em some time and the configuration possibilities (sp?) will grow I'm sure.

The Studio filled my niche perfectly.

Although I went ahead and ordered it without waiting for the Montevina.

I think it'll be perfect for what I'm doing, which is only general web and multimedia purposes. Plus I do like the design, even though it's slightly thicker.

The studio 17 is a very welcome surprise. the m1730 is a bit of an overkill for me personally. I only play a handful of source games, along with other older games such as civilization III, and X-com (going way back on that one) But i do want a 17inch screen for advanced photoshop, video editing, and music recording. The HD 3650 will work just fine for my needs personally, and will save me a large chunk of change which i can use to get a 12in wacom citiq.

though i would still go for the m1530 if i was in the market for a 15.4in laptop.

The Studio 17 is a good option if you want a thinner then M1730 but more power then the 1720.

The Studio 15 seems to have one thing missing and that is a good GPU.

from the earlier pics weve seen on engadget with the studio having that macbook lookn keyboard i thought they lookt cool, but now after see them they kinda have this hp look. i notice that the new dells are thicker aswell, maybe for the gpu,but i dont want something that thick. i dont know its early days yet to make up my mind, but the dedicated card im in favour of even tho it might not be the fast it sure beats my intergrated 7150 nvidia lol
