the thing you have to be aware of is when you install XP you will have to load the SATA drivers during that initial setup since the XP install disk will most likely not have the required drivers. everything else you will be able to do from within XP once it gets installed.

so basically, all i have to do for that is change the drive type in the BIOS right? and then put in the driver disk for the SATA drive before i put in the XP disk?

also what is the use of Nlight?

in the beginning steps of the XP install, it prompts you to insert a disk if you have 3rd party hard drive drivers to install. that is where you will put in your disk with the SATA drivers on it. however, i believe XP requires that you do it by way of 3.5" floppy diskette. i'm not sure if having them on a CD will work, i have never tried it.

and nLite is a program used to slipstream a Windows installation CD. basically you put all the latest updates and drivers onto a new disk with all the files from the original install disk so that you only deal with a single install disk, as opposed to several. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nlite

yea i dont blame you at all for not wanting to do that. i think that is why most people do elect to go the nLite way because they can do it using a normal cd/dvd.
