    hi
as the title says, i really dont know if the 6 cell battery is good enough for the inspiron 1720 that i am going to get.i am mostly going to plug it in, but i want to know that for the occasional need of mobility, is the 6-cell enough power?how long will it last?thanks in advance and my specs are in the sig EDIT
i usually wont be mobile for long, the hours the battery lasts doesnt matter to me, it is just if it has enough power to support a 1720, without burning to flames.

go for the 9-cell. Thing I've read that the 9 cell lasts about 2-2 1/2 hours. Not saying much about the 6-cell time.

I am getting annoyed that batteries in large laptops are starting to sit out at the back. My 9 cell on my 9300 sits flush undernearth and does not sit out and look ugly. Get a 6 cell and maybe a 9 cell to carry around if you need it.

Notebooks should look like cool notebooks, not ugly things with things sticking out.

Depends if you need the battery life. A battery that sticks out a little is a small price to pay if you need 3+ hours of battery life. I bought a 6400 with 9 cell battery last year and the 3:30h of battery life was a blessing in those long tedious and boring university classes. The battery doesn,t stick out on the old Inspirons but I would have got it anyway if it did.

    1. 9 cell makes the laptop ugly in inspirons and vostros
    2. if mobility is a big concern why go for a 17" laptop? those things are ginormous

mobility isnt much of a concern, because i will usually keep it at home, or in the car.on some occasions, i might need to take it to other places.plus, i love big screens, maybe due to the fact i am around big screens(65 inch tv)

I would go with the 9 cell, just to have the extra life.

I went for the 9-cell on my e1705 and never regretted it. However, it also doesn't stick out like some vistigial tail they forgot to chop off in production.
