    i don't really know much things about notebooks.. i heard that dell xps m1210 is really good.. does it only have cd/dvd writer?.. if it doesn't have the reader that wud probably be the BIIIIGG con of it...

    or
    a DVD+-RW/CD+-RW

    it does have an internal optical drive, it doesnt use an external drive like some small formfactor laptops use, hence the added thickness, which I would take any day of the week over an external drive
