I'm just wondering if installing additional RAM yourself, will void the notebook's battery? .. you know how they say that your notebook's warranty is void if you've tampered with anything or open up the casing, etc .. how about changing the optical drive? .. does that void the warranty too? .. or like upgrading to a bigger/faster hard-drive? ..
no wonder vendors want you to buy their pre-built models, and stick you with a higher than market cost for more ram, etc! ..

No does not void warranty. The warranty however won't cover the newly installed hardware. Also most likely if you have a problem with the notebook dell will ask you to return the notebook to it's original configuration before helping you.

Upgrading memory does not void the warranty. I would ask Dell what they consider a user upgradeable part is. Usually memory, hard drives and opticals drives are considered replaceable, but it never hurts to ask.

Nope your warrenty won't become void. I am just posting this for the fun of it.
I think you already got your answer. lol
Oh and check new eggs prices for ram. That is where I got mine and it hasn't let me down yet.
