i was wondering if there was a way to have it auto change, instead of having to use dell quickset.
it should be smart enough to run full speed when plugged in, and slower when on battery, right?

What Core Duo has is SpeedStep. It runs at 800Mhz most of the time and switches to full speed when the computer needs it. It's automatic. Quickset is a power management solution, you can choose to have it permanently running at 800 Mhz or at full speed or disable any other device in order to save power. That's what is meant for. In the end, you really don't need quickset. My settings are: Always on and I use NHC to set on Max Battery when unplugged and Dynamic Switching when plugged.
