    Hello everyone,

Brand new to the site, I have been trolling around here prior to buying my notebook, I decided on the M1530.

I need to install Windows 2k3 on the lappy, I want to keep the vista as well. There is a few reasons why I would like to install it on here but, the main reason is because I need to test out some permissions stuff on a non-important machine, before making it live on a few other actual servers.

I have read a few topics on this, on older models of the dell. Yes, it's a legit copy of 2k3, as this was an issue in a previous thread. It was obtained through dreamspark as I am a returning student.

So the question is, what's the easiest, and least painful way of doing this? There will be 1 other person RDC'ing in during the testing of it if that matters any.

Thanks in advance for your help,
    Dr. Woo

    P.S.
I just received my laptop about 2 weeks ago.. it's been great, this site was a huge part of my going this route.

On a side note.... Being they shipped me CD/DVD's for all the software and such. Is the recover partition all that needed?

Get a mod to move this to the Windows Software section and it will be much easier to get answers.

I'm not positive this would work, but i wouldn't see any reason it wouldn't work.

Since you already have vista installed partition off a chunk of your hard drive that you want 2003 to install on.

Reboot your computer and boot to the 2003 disk and install it on that partition you just made.

After its all done, it should only boot to 2003 and not vista anymore...don't worry. Pop in your vista disk again and run the repair. This should rebuild your mbr and create a boot loader for you so you can select which os you would like to boot from after post.

As for drivers, use the windows xp drivers that are floating around this forum for people installing xp on their 1530's.

Best solution is to just install Vista and then run Server 2003 using VMWare.

I think virtual pc works better, but your right, some sort of virtualization would be a good choice also.

Isn't virtual PC 2007 free now as well?

Basically as long as everything works, such as RDC and the 1 or 2 programs I'm testing then I'll be good... Chances are when I'm done testing, I'll never use it again, on the lappy.
