How is it if you leave a DVD or a CD in the drive?

Known problem with the Studio 15. The fix is:
    1. Shutdown
    2. Unplug from charger
    3. Unplug battery
    4. Hold power button for 10-20 sec (Discharges capacitors)
    5. Reinsert battery and charger
Should temporarily fix the issue for a while.

For me, the problem comes back after a few reboots although some people claim that this will fix it for good. YMMV

No, because I doubt they will acknowledge the problem or have any solution to it. It does not really bother me that much. If more problems come up and I do end up contacting them, I'll mention this issue as well.

You could use the Dell Chat on their website (support.dell.com). It makes things faster than mailing them and waiting for a response. You chat with a live person and they have to try to solve your problem.
