Does anyone have any instructions on how I should do this? I'm not sure how to remove the panels, so I'm kinda stuck.

The service guide is located here(support.dell.com).
You should see the inverter once you remove the display bezel with the instruction linked above. -
Thanks for that link, now how can I remove the old inverter?
-
Edit It should look like this
-
I'm still trying to get behind this... -
Well...in that case you will probably have to remove the Display Panel to gain access to the inverter from the other side.
You might be able to pry the metal plate off the inverter but... -
I just replaced the inverter...but the problem wasn't solved...does anyone have any idea on what the problem is?

When I turn on my laptop, the light comes on for about half a second, and then turns off. I can still see everything on the screen if I put a bright light close to it. The laptop also makes a fizzley sound when the light goes out.

Any help suggested?

Check by hooking up an external monitor(you may need to press FN+LCD/CRT key to display the image on the ext. monitor) -
The LCD looks fine. When I hook up the laptop to another monitor, the picture looks normal. The only problem is that the backlights don't turn on, on the laptop screen.
