I've read many good reviews of the the e1505's screen. It seems like most people are happy with it(i.e. plenty of brightness, colors not faded out, etc.). However, it seems that the people who have gotten their e1405 are not satisfied at all. Has anyone seen both and want to compare the two?
I was going to get a e1405 but if the screen sucks I might have to go with the e1505. Any comments/comparisons are appreciated.

This is a common thing with Dell's. Alot of the new models that come out have a problem with the screen at first. This is why alot of people wait before buying. Dell then goes to another manufacturer or the same manufacturer and gets the screen issues resolved...or try to.

We just got my wife's e1405 today. I didn't mention any of the things I had read about the screen to her.
When we turned it on, and finally got to the desktop, AND bumped the brightness up, she said "Wow, that really looks good."
I looked, and I noticed some light leakage at the bottom of the screen. However, I did not see any dark spots in the corners. Viewing angle is definitely not very wide horizontally, though it is better vertically. Either way, it is perfectly fine for one person looking at it. If you want two folks in front of it for an extended period of time, then the screen isn't going to keep you happy.
Basically, if you are on this message board a lot (aka a tech snob), you are probably not going to be impressed with the screen. If you are more like my wife (aka not a tech snob), then the screen is going to look great to you. So think about who you are buying the book for, what their level of caring is going to be about minor leakage and narrow viewing angles, and decide from there. -

I didn't mind the leakage. Most people say you can really tell when you watch a DVD that is Widescreen. But I don't watch DVD's on my notebook. So I really don't mind. I know I have leakage, but doesn't really bother me. -
what do u mean viewing angle?
-
The angle at which you view the screen. 180 degrees means you can view the screen when standing at the extreme left or right edge of the laptop, etc.
-
Yup. The viewing angle is pretty narrow on the e1405, compared to other books I have seen. You can still see the image to the left or right, but it isn't presented in its full glory. If you are slightly left or right of center, you will still get a decent picture.

Newest update on the screen. I am sitting next to my wife as she is messing around with her e1405. We are on a loveseat. I can look over at her screen, and it is still pretty clear. The farthest side from me is a bit darker, but still legible, and the colors are still decent.
Brightness is turned all the way up. -
I've never owneed a laptop but I can say the E1405 screeen is fine. It's definately got some minor issues but these aren't as bad as some people make them seem. The light leakage just makes the taskbar a bit bright but otherwise you don't notice it on most screens.
