Ok so I plug some Logitech x-230's (which sound fantastic by the way) into my laptop and play music from a CD (using Winamp). That, of course, works fine.

I come back in 2 hours, however, and NO sound is coming out the Logitech speakers. It may have stopped a little earlier than that, I'm not sure. Speakers have not been tampered with, laptop (or winamp) has not been tampered with. Winamp is still showing the song being played.

I turn the speakers on and off, pull the power on the speakers, mute/unmute the laptop, vary the volume on the speakers and the laptop... and still NO sound comes from the speakers.

But strangely enough, if I disconnect the speakers from my laptop, SOUND comes out from my laptop speakers! I try some headphones and no sound comes out of those either. Deciding it's probably a software/driver/nonphysical problem at that point, I restart the laptop, and voila! sound once again comes through the speakers.

So anyone know what happened? Somehow the line between the soundchip and the headphone jack was cut, but not the line to the laptop speakers, which still worked.

Software problem? Driver problem? Windows problem? Winamp problem? My laptop was plugged in, and under that setting, only the monitor is supposed to turn off (in 20 min)...not sure if it will though with a program like winamp running. If it did, does that have an effect?

Also, I slighly dropped by laptop (an inch at the most) while it was booting it up one day. I've gotten some blue screens saying my 'volume is dirty' and deleting corrupted files since the drop and MediaDirect doesn't seem to work. Maybe a hard drive problem?

Thanks if anyone can figure this out, or has had this problem before!

    Add:

Ok it seems Media Direct IS working. When turning it on, it said system failed to restart. Continue with restart, or delete restoration data and start system boot up. I chose the later, and now it's working fine.

I've had similar problems on a couple of occasions concerning the sound issue only, I haven't had any error messages or dropped my laptop, and like you I just unplugged, re-plugged and rebooted until they worked again.

Cool thanks. Probably just a software/windows problem then.

I have had this problem on my e1405 as well where I had to unplug it for 10-15 minutes to get it working again and I'm still not sure if it is a hardware or driver issue.
