    Hello,

I have a dell 6400 (same as e1505 in the US), it is oh, maybe 3 months old. The thing works great. However, over the last two days, I've noticed the CD/DVD Drive start vibrating extremely loud. Loud enough to cover up music comming out of the speakers. Normally it is quiet enough that i do not hear it at all. When it was buzzing/vibrating, putting my hand on the edge of the drive seemed to dampen it somewhat, but it was still very loud.

It has only happened twice, while copying music CD's to an MP3 library, and I haven't been able to duplicate it purposely, so its some sort of intermittent problem. (is there a way to test to see if this is due to the CD ramping up speed?) I need the laptop for daily work, so I don't want to send it back to the factory, and I only have the basic 1 year warranty.

    Any suggestions? is this normal?

It more than likely depends on the specific CD. Some are made unbalanced (unintentionally), so when they hit high speed, they start vibrating. The best way to make sure that it's ok is to pull it back out, and make sure it's seated correctly and firmly. If it still vibrates, I'd rip them to mp3's like you're doing and just forget about it. It's not a huge deal, it's just something that happens every now and then.
