I just got my e1505. I ordered an 80gb 7200rpm hard drive. I check my C drive and the total space is 51.2gb... is this normal? Would reformatting help a bit? Because I only have about 41gb of free space, which is way too small. I hope Dell didn't switch up my order... Thanks...

they might have given you a 60gb 7200rpm hd... i'd just quickly pull it out and check to see if you have the correct hard drive... it should be labeled..

Reformatting will save you some space, but the majority of the room "stolen" from you is because of the recovery partition dell installs. Still, 51 seems sketchy--i'd pull out the drive and check, like hbomb174 suggested.

Definitely check. An 80 gig hard drive should only go down to about 74 gigs before the partitions, so you should still have at least in the 60s. No way you should go down almost 30 gigs.

Ya, it doesn't sound right. The restore partition on a hard drive is about 6GB IIRC, so to lose 25 GB or so is definately not normal.

You might want to check it on the Computer Mangement for the whole storage (partitions) on the HD.

If dont want to open up your notebook, you can get the model number by go to Windows Explorer, right click on the drive, go to Properties and click on Hardware, and on the first one, you should see the model number of the HD left by the "Disk drives"

Just google the model number to see if you got the right HD.

I took it out and it says 80GB... Really strange.

Any more suggestions? Maybe the hard drive's sticker was labeled incorrectly... but is that a common occurance? Hmm...

    I'll try contacting Dell though.

    edit: I'll try that NetBrakr.

edit 2: I googled the number and yes, it's 80gb... Oh dear. :/

that is definately a 60 GB HD, unless something went really wrong.

    i have a E1505 with 60GB 7200, Seagate, and after formatting, i still have 54 GB remaining.

80GB would be the size of the entire hard disk. The 'C' partition is just part of that. See www.goodells.net/dellrestore/mediadirect.htm for an explanation of some of the other partitions that may or may not be on your hard disk.

Have you check the partition on Computer Mangenment.

Go to Control Panel, Adminstrative Tools, Computer Mangement. Click on Drives or something like that on the left side. (Sorry, I am at my college's computer).
