I just reinstalled windows XP last night and so far everything has gone fine thanks to SouthernGirls guide to format it. But there is one thing that has gone wroong. I cannot burn any cds or anything using SONIC software. i called dell and asked them to send the cds so i could format the computer. But now when im about to burn a cd, i get an error message telling me to use another blank cd. The cd drive i have is a TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D. There are currently no drivers listed on the dell website and ive noticed that it vibrates a lot more than when i first used it a week ago.

Can some one help me please??

You might want to delete the ide drivers. Windows will re-install them when rebooted. CDBurnerXP works well for the basics and is free if you want to try other software.

You might try removing the cd/dvd and reinstalling it. This should hopefully cause the drivers to reinstall. Have you tried just using XP to burn them? Not sure if Sonic is causing the problem or your cd drive.

I was having similar issues with the L632D. But my software would say it was burning, and when the disk was done it would not read, on the laptop, or any other machine. After 2 hours with Dell tech support they sent me another drive, a NEC ND-6650A, refurbished, but better specs. The L632D is a bad drive. There are a few posts on the web about it. Ask for a replacement.
