    hi all,

I was wondering where the best place to get a good deal on 2 1gb sticks of ram for my new e1505 would be. Also, how hard is it to install and is there a link someone knows of the explains the steps? Finally, do u really need a bracelet that "grounds" you when installing it?

If you are in USA, check on www.newegg.com .. theyr have good prices!
For canada, check NICX or direct Canada

It's very easy to install, and you can have a guide on dell's website.

For the bracelet, I didn't use one to change my ram 3 weeks ago, and it works perfectly

    Thanks a lot guys...

Do you think it matters what brand to get or are most of them pretty much the same? Also, does it matter if its 533mhz or 667mhz? Thanks again

Seems to me their was a comparison on Toms Hardware and it made no difference, 533 or 667.

One tip, it'll take the BIOS several minutes to see the change, be patient.

533mhz and 677 mhz is your main board bus speed? because RAM's bus speed usually are 60 70 90mhz.

Lets not make things any complicated than they already are, shall we? No one speaks of the actual clock speeds anymore. DDR(II) ram is classified by it’s effective clockspeed (533/666) or by the theoretical bandwidth in MB/s : PC4200/PC5300. So lets stick to that.

FYI : The actual clock speeds of modern DDRII ram start from 133MHz upwards. With the new Intel quad pumped architecture data is transferred at both rising and falling edges (like in previous DDR) x 2 phase angles making a total of 4 transactions per actual clock cycle. Hence 133x4 ~533 and 166x4~666.

i just installed some ram in my acer. i got some kingston RAM, well known manufacurer, and after looking around on the net, i found it really cheap!

As for installing, well its simple. If you buy kingston they usually give you a little manual/leaflet which explains how to install the RAM correctly. It said: 1) Take the battery out of the laptop
2)Remove back panel which covers RAM modules (which is easy on 6400/e1505 cuz i got it, you onlu got a couple of screws to deal with) Also read the manual if you are unsure where the cover is.

    3) Insert the new RAM module at a 30-45 degree angle into the module slot, then push into place.

    4) Push the module down (as it was at a 30-45 degree angle)

    5) Then clip into place (there are two little white clips on the side, which clip into little intents in the RAM module)

Didnt take long at all, i had never installed RAM in a laptop before, but it was simple enough it only took 5-10mins :)

I bought the Transcend jet ram 1 gig sticks from newegg for 30 bucks each. They work great in my e1505.
